Medieval city of Oberkirch (Black Forest)

Of great interest is the ruin of Schauenburg from the 11th century, which sits in its unique splendor above the city. Carnival in Oberkirch

Visit the unforgettable Swabian-Alemannic Carnival in Oberkirch. In southern Germany, the carnival or Fasent as it is called is somewhat similar to the carnivals of the Rhine but has its own origin.
Characteristic is the disguise of participants with masks, which consist mostly of wood. It is tradition of the The Hästräger (Swabian-Alemannic for costume wearer) to maintain the same Häs (costume) from year to year, in some areas it is even customary for these costumes to be passed from generation to generation.

For example, the eco-friendly heating of 24° Celsius water temperature is generated by the waste heat of the nearby industrial company "Koehler Paper Group AG".

Festival of Lights in Oberkirch
The "Oberkirch Festival of Lights" is the setting of a very special celebration of lights. Countless luminous lights, often having a size of up to seven meters, are on display in the streets and alleys. The Oberkircher retailers invite you to a summer night shopping until midnight. Music entertains in the old streets where a taste of Baden cuisine can be found as well as many catering stalls where the interested tourist can browse and linger. A night flea market in the candlelight is also on show.
Each year a magic show of lights is held along with a traditional concert in the city garden. The musical entertainment is provided by the Harmonica Friends artists and Orchestra of Oberkirch.

From 10am to 4pm, everything revolves around the theme of the Apple. Numerous delicacies around the fruit are offered at the various booths. Whether apple fritters, apple crumble or apple schnapps, the variety has no limits. The marketplace is carefully decorated and Apple Tree Avenue informs the visitors about the different varieties of the popular fruit. Wonderful autumnal apple products are available for sale and younger visitors can enjoy freshly squeezed apple juice. The Oberkirch Apple Festival is definitely worth a visit!.
